Balloons, Bongos and Birthday Lola!

Lola marks her 3rd birthday with much revelry.
Pink frosting, chocolate cake. Irresistible!

After the party, Lola tried on her cowboy outfit. It made her smile.

Haute Halloween

Not even 3 years old, Lola demonstrates a keen sense of style.
... as well as an affinity for chocolate.
This visage warranted much candy for The Little Miss.

The Girl in Red

Halloween in Marietta, Ga. was a big event - primarily because of the numerous costume changes it involved. Lola finally settled on this smart little ensemble. And charmed all those McCain-Palin supporters!

Malibu in October!

Nothing beats the Pacific on a warm autumn day.

Kidspace ROCKS!

The best remedy for the arid fall here in LA has been Kidspace's water activities..Here's Lola enchanted with a water gun...

Super Lola!

It was a superhero kind of Saturday as Lola joined her friend Tuesday to test out some fantastic capes that Tuesday's grandma created. It was the perfect scenario to showcase Lola's superhuman charisma.

The Summer of the Butterfly Dress

Lola has found her raison d'etre and it is the Butterfly Dress. For about five weeks now, she has refused to wear anything else. It's the first thing she puts on in the morning and it's the often the pajamas she wears to bed. Every now and then, she agrees reluctantly to allow us to wash it.

Lola's extended vacation

Despite a promising start, Lola decided the Montessori method just wasn't her bag. So, until Mom devises a new plan, Lola's content with the status quo (as shown here).

The First Day of Preschool

Lola took to her new school easily, assuring me as I said goodbye: "I'm going to stay here with my friends." Lola was so adventurous in fact that she over-estimated her climbing prowess and had to get help down from the jungle gym. But her bold attempt made an impression on her German-born teacher Ute who marveled at our little "dare-devil."

Lola does the Bob

Here it is, Lola's new "look." (And just fyi: that's her camera-ready smile with just a dab of milk.) So sophisticated that Mom and Dad are still trying to wrap their heads around the transformation.

Lola's First Haircut

The Princess Ballerina

Lola is a favorite at her ballet class. Her ballet teacher tells everyone she was "the star" of the recital. Put a tiara on her little head and watch her go!

The Social Butterfly

Lola's first day of school -- at Eagle Rock Montessori -- is still three weeks away, but during a recent morning visit, she was eager to join in. She slipped right into circle time and then managed to join snack time too! When it was time to leave, several children gathered around her and asked, "Why does she have to go?"

Our little mischief

This is Lola's sweet-as-an-angel face when she tries something she knows she shouldn't be trying: in this case, yanking the chain that closes a newsstand's shutter.

Fire Season in L.A.

It's been hot here. So hot that Lola routinely asks for a swimming pool. An orange one, specifically. When an orange swimming pool is not immediately forthcoming, she asks for the next best thing: "Popsicle!"

Networking on Larchmont

Last Saturday, Lola, world's most gregarious 2-year-old, met her match in 5 year old Juliana. This little girl stopped us on the sidewalk and invited Lola to join her and her father for breakfast. And we did! After some pancakes, Juliana and her dad followed us to the newsstand. It was just that kind of day...

The Incredible Lightness of Being Lola

On the move

Here we are traveling by (mini) train through Griffith Park. And per usual, breaking news followed Lola. Fire trucks and helicopters came screaming by just a few moments later responding to a five-acre brush fire up the hill...But don't fret friends! We were long gone by then.

If it's July, it must be Swim Lesson Time!

Here's Lola at her first swimming lesson at the gigantic Rose Bowl Aquatic Center. It's pretty chaotic there -- dozens of classes taking place simultaneously -- but Lola made the best of it! (Her second class, not so much.)
Here she is on the kickboard...
...and blowing bubbles.

Lola and Her Toes

This flexible child passed time during a recent car ride by tickling her eyebrows with her toes. She's brilliant!

Sometimes, after Lola's worn her hair in a braid all day, she takes on the look of a tiny Motley Crue fan, circa 1985.

Punk Rock Bath

The Toddler Sophisticate

Lola spent a whirlwind ten days traveling to the South earlier this month. Here, she samples some artisan apple juice while enjoying a little "Horton Hears a Who."

Beachy Lola

It has been the Summer of the Beach for Lola this year. She's become a regular in Malibu. (Pictured here on Father's Day) And just last week, she kicked up her heels in the surf of Manhattan Beach.

The First Ballet Recital - A momentous occasion

Lola wowed audiences in Eagle Rock today with a dance performance that can only be described as a "tour de force." And we, her parents, aren't just being biased. "She's a rock star," is how her dance teacher Karen put it. Lola performed the "Boogie Woogie Piggy" routine with one other child, a little boy named Lucas. But as far as she was concerned, the stage was hers and hers alone. Sorry, but the video clip lacks sound. But you get the idea. Words just don't do it justice. And this, was just the encore...

The rush after the show...

Spring Idyll, La Quinta Style

About a month ago, we went to the desert for a little retreat...Here we are on Michael's birthday! Woo hoo! 30 years old! Again!

Facile with Tools AND Pearls

Lola lent her parents a hand assembling yet another piece of Ikea furniture. And she looked great doing it!

Big slide. Little girl. Great fun!
Hey there! And welcome to my blog!
Oh my goodness! It's Lola's parents - just a few weeks before they were parents! (With a wee Jobim)
Oops. Sorry! Wrong generation.
On Monday, Lola went to the zoo. Here, she ogles the gorillas and shouts "Hi gorilla! Hi gorilla!" The gorillas stoically refrained from response.
This is Lola's face after gearing up for the hot zoo visit with some blue Gatorade.
Lola reveled in the wide open spaces outside the gorilla exhibit. Plenty of space to, as she would say to "Run around, Mommy!"
Ballet class on Tuesday is the highlight of our week around here.
Lola gets the most out of every prop!
